Gritting Update – Fri 13 Feb

You’ll probably have seen warnings of ice until early tomorrow morning. Unfortunately more rain is also forecast until 2 am so anything spread before that would just get washed away and wasted. Please then, take care first thing. Highways will do their routes but not until midnight so theirs could also be washed away, all depends on the timing of the rain.

Community Police meeting 19th Feb 2pm Christow

Your local Neighbourhood Team will be at CHRISTOW at The Bus Stop by The Community Shop, Village Road, Christow, EX6 7WA on 19th February 2026 at 2-3pm.

Please take this opportunity to raise any concerns you may have and to find out what the Police are doing to tackle the issues that matter to you.

Weather warning update from TDC

The Met Office has issued further yellow warnings for rain covering both today (Thursday 29th January) from 12:00 to 23:59 and tomorrow (Friday 30th) from 12:00 until 06:00 on Saturday morning (31st).

The level of rain expected is nowhere near the levels experienced with Storm Charna, but as it is falling on saturated ground there is a greater likelihood of localised flooding.

Please pass this message on to your communities, encourage preparedness measures such as moving parked vehicles to higher ground, and caution, particularly around driving through floodwater which required multiple fire service attendances over the past week.

We at TDC are continuing to liaise around the clock with multi-agency colleagues from the emergency services, DCC, Environment Agency, Met Office and others, and will keep you updated with any developments.

Gritting Update – Mon 5 Jan

Those who’ve used the hill today will be relieved to know that it’s been salted again. Our grateful thanks go to Andy H and Dom for going out again this afternoon to salt. Looks like a bit of snow/sleet again overnight and it’s cold until mid morning. Extra salt has been put down again at the awkward points but, as usual, treat with care.
Water still running out from the field at Venn but we’ve acquired an ice warning sign.
If you saw The Great Freeze of 1963 on Ch 4 last night you’ll know that it could be a lot worse!

Gritting Update – Sat 3 Jan

Our grateful thanks go to Andy B and Jarrod for going out this afternoon to salt the hill. Unfortunately, despite paying for a full service this summer it appears that the gritter is playing up a bit. Fingers crossed it keeps going. It’s mostly dry but conditions can change so, as usual, treat the hill with care.
