Gritting Update – Sat 2 Feb

The hill has been gritted tonight but it was a close thing. Our drivers were busy/ unavailable and it was only down to Jarrod being prepared to break off what he was doing that it was done. An example of why we need more drivers! So, grateful thanks to Jarrod and also to Andy who joined the team for the first time. Anne

Gritting Update – Thurs 31 Jan

Jarrod and Mick have just been out to try and get the grit down before the promised snow. However, I’ve just received a “Don’t travel unless your journey is really necessary“ from the Police Alert Service. Highways are doing the Primary Routes at least four times, no indication as to whether they’re proposing to do any Secondary Routes. Anne

Gritting Update – Wed 30 Jan

I’d like to thank Sam for going out tonight to do the hill. I’ve just been told that we qualify for Secondary Gritting tomorrow morning too, that means they expect very poor conditions. Anne

Gritting Update – Tues29 Jan

I’d like to thank Dom and Matt for going out tonight to do the hill. Even though they’ve gritted it be careful in the morning as any change in the weather could still produce ice. Anne

Volunteers Required to Ensure Bridford Hill is Accessible and Safe in Winter

MORE VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED TO ENSURE THAT BRIDFORD HILL IS ACCESSIBLE AND SAFE DURING WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS

Our Snow Warden has a few volunteers who are willing to go out with the new grit spreader but we do need more drivers with access to a 4×4 vehicle with a tow hitch to come forward and offer their services. The more drivers and vehicles that can be called upon, the less often they will be needed to go out.

We know that Devon County will not budge from their decisions to remove Bridford from the primary gritting route, so it really is a case of the village looking after itself!

Our District and County Councillors have provided funds to finance a new towable grit spreader which is making the job a lot easier and taking less time to do. If it is important for you and your family to have safe access in and out of the village, be it for school, work or for medical appointments then please do consider if you would be willing to leave the comfort of your home for an hour or so to join the Snow Warden’s team to go out and grit the hill.

We are fortunate that we do not have the atrocious weather that other parts of the world are currently experiencing, but the real cold snap is on its way and the reality is that if we are to avoid accidents on the hill, then BRIDFORD MUST BE PREPARED!!

We are not only looking for men. There are some fit women out there who would be most welcome and training will be given.

Please contact the Clerk tel. 252805 or email [email protected] if you would like to help.

Gritting Update

Thanks to Matt and David G who went out tonight to grit the hill. Do though take it carefully, our volunteers go out once, DCC is going out at least twice tonight on their routes.
If anyone else would like to join the team, we are short of drivers, it cannot be done without a 4WD and tow bar. If you would like to help then the Chair of the Parish Council, Francis Miles can explain the position on insurance.
