Mike spent the morning replacing the nylon engagement gear and Andy H and Dom took it out and have managed to grit the whole run. The gritter though developed another problem – never a dull moment for the Snow Team at the moment! A temporary repair with tape was made but the gritter is back in the critical care ward and we’ll have to hope that Mike can repair the latest fault. We really are very grateful to all our volunteers who are doing everything possible to keep the village moving. Anne Mayes
Gritting Update – Sat 10Nov
An above and beyond award tonight for Andy B and Dom who went out to grit but found that the gritting wheel wasn’t spinning today. They improvised by spreading by hand which meant one of them sitting on the gritter…..Mike is going up tomorrow to have a look, hopefully it’s a part for which we have a spare. If it’s not then I’m afraid that our gritting is going to be severely affected. Today they’ve managed most of the route but not all so again, please take great care. Anne Mayes
Gritting Update – Fri 9 Nov
The volunteers aren’t going out tonight – no, they’re not on strike, but Highways have gritted the Secondary Routes and did the hill earlier. Anne Mayes
Gritting Update – Thurs 8 Nov
The volunteers are in for a busy time at the moment with this prolonged cold spell with ice and a dusting of snow forecast. Our thanks go to Nige and our new volunteer Andy H who kindly went out tonight and gritted the hill for us.
If you’re new to the village, do please treat the hill with respect, we only go out once per night and showers or a run off can diminish the effect of the grit which has been spread the length of the hill. Stay safe – and warm! Anne Mayes
Gritting Update – Wed 7 Dec
Our thanks to Dave and Joe who kindly went out tonight and gritted the hill for us. Anne Mayes
Gritting Update – Sun1 May
It’s OK! Highways have stopped sending out gritting updates so it’s officially the end of winter. I just wanted to publicly thank the volunteers in our Snow Team who’ve been on call to go out all winter, we’re all very grateful. Anne Mayes

Gritting Update – Thurs 10 Feb
We’re very grateful to Matt and Ali for going out to grit the hill for us tonight. We had difficulty over availability again tonight so there’s still room for more volunteers, people aren’t always free to go out. Anne Mayes

Gritting Update – Thurs 20 Jan
We’re very grateful to Joe and Colin who braved the cold to go out and grit the hill for us tonight. It was Joe’s first run having only joined the Team a couple of weeks ago, very pleased to welcome him! Still room for more, people aren’t always free to go out. Anne Mayes

Gritting Update – 5th January
Our thanks to Dom and Matt who have just gritted the hill for us. There is quite a bit of run off in places so take it carefully as some may have been washed away and will leave ice.
Gritting Update – 4th January 2022
Unfortunately we don’t have a driver who is free to go out tonight to grit the hill. The Primary routes are being done twice and temps will be low but we cannot manage it. If there any others out there who have a vehicle with a tow bar we’d really welcome them to help out.
